by Salina Yara Halabi, New Home Guide
Urbanity Custom Homes Ltd. welcomes you to its beautiful bungalow in Northwest Edmonton. At just over 1,700 sq. ft, this impressive home is located in the prestigious neighbourhood of Castlebrook. This exceptional multi-lake community features plenty of greenspaces for residents to enjoy and has an abundance of amenities located nearby. Residents of the Castlebrook have convenient access to 97 Street - a direct route to the city centre. Plus, the Anthony Henday is only a few minutes away, which means getting to any point of the city is quick and hassle-free.
The Yorkshire offers the classic curb appeal of a sprawling bungalow. A double-car garage and a stucco exterior accented with cultured stone add to the grand effect of the home. Upon entering through the front door, a large foyer with a stunning 12-ft. ceiling sets the tone for this modern home. Beautiful details in the ceiling design immediately catch the attention of the eye and enhance the airy feeling of the space. The custom details are quickly noticed in the Yorkshire; neutral grey toned tile is framed with a deep grey tile creating instant flair. A generously sized formal dining room is found to the left of the entrance and features a unique raised ceiling design. Three windows surround the dining area, which can comfortably seat a table of 10. After passing through the foyer, an open environment living space which features a floor-to-ceiling stone accented fireplace, complete with a flat screen TV, is showcased. Custom dark maple bookcases frame the fireplace on each side, providing plenty of shelving and bottom cupboard space for item display or storage. The ceiling above the living and kitchen area is presented in an interesting bulkhead design.
To the right of the great room is a kitchen that would delight any cooking aficionado. This beautifully designed area combines striking design elements with high quality kitchen appliances. Dark maple cabinets with chrome hardware provide a wonderful contrast against the lighter toned mosaic glass tile backsplash. Upper kitchen cabinets and the pantry door feature glass inserts that add another layer of visual interest to the space. A large island showcases the stunning granite countertops in the kitchen area. This island is the transitional piece that leads to the living area, and has enough bar seating to fit four. A gas stove and double Frigidaire Professional ovens ensure you will never run out of cooking space. The stainless steel Frigidaire Professional appliances also include the double-door fridge and microwave. Backing off of the kitchen is a bright dining area which is surrounded by windows and access to the back patio. The main floor area of this home is perfect for entertaining, offering a substantially sized open concept space for friends and family to enjoy.
The Yorkshire's main level also includes the mudroom - an area that will serve as the laundry room and also provide some extra storage space. Whirlpool front load washer and dryer are nestled under a countertop that includes a sink - a fantastic feature that many laundry and mud rooms are lacking. Numerous cabinets and a seating bench are also located in this space which leads to the double car garage. The mudroom of this home leads to a hallway allowing residents to go directly to one of the two main floor bedrooms or main floor bath without the need to cross through the kitchen or living area. Towards the end of the hallway is the master bedroom with beautiful bulkhead ceiling accents, a large walk-in closet and luxurious ensuite.
His and Her vanities are presented in the master ensuite, as well as a digital air jetted jacuzzi. A glass panel shower stall features floor-to-ceiling tiled walls, a rain shower head and body jets. Next to the master bedroom is a second bedroom, which can also be used a home office or den. The main floor full bath finishes off this level of the home and is situated in between the two bedrooms.
Access to the basement of the home is towards the back of living area. The beautiful maple hardwood floors that are featured throughout the main floor are also used on the stairs leading down to the exceptional basement. This basement is the ultimate entertainment zone. A large bar with tons of raised seating space is anchored towards the staircase, leaving the living area open and spacious. The striking granite wet bar includes wine fridges and even a dishwasher. Plus, a wine storage room located behind the bar will guarantee the homeowner will discover their inner wine connoisseur. The basement provides more than enough room to allow for a games table and seating. A fireplace and in floor heating system are fantastic bonus features of the basement that ensure warmth is provided throughout the year, even with hardwood floors!
Adding to the entertainment feel of this level of the home is the theatre room located behind the living area. This large room includes a two level seating design that enhances the theatre effect, and a wet bar complete with mini-fridge. Two large bedrooms are featured in the basement, each with a spacious closet and oversized window. A full bath is located in between the two bedrooms, providing convenient access from all areas of the basement.
Not to be overlooked is the fact that this is a Built Green™ home. Beneficial features include triple glazed energy saving windows, a tankless water heater, and other numerous features that not only bring cost savings to the homeowner in the future but are also environmentally responsible.
The Hutton Show Home Review
by Jill Munroe, New Home Buyer's Guide
Building Homes, Building Dreams is the motto of Urbanity Custom Homes. It is evident throughout this two-storey home there is emphasis on the little details. The Hutton is not only designed with comfort and beauty in mind, it is energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
This home has achieved a BUILT GREEN™, GOLD level standing. Urbanity President, Georgina Nunes-Serrao is proud of this accomplishment saying building "green" is a builder's responsibility "to protect our children's future while providing a healthier home" for everyone. She points out Canadians spend 90% of their time indoors and that "new home smell" is actually chemicals being emitted into the air and is not healthy. To combat this, Urbanity uses water-based lacquers and paints, mainly hard surface flooring, low emission carpets, an active heat recovery ventilator, a controlled fan that ensures automatic ventilation of the home, and many more features too long to list.
All of this green technology and energy efficiency is built into a warm and welcoming home. The front entry is full of natural light that streams in from every direction. The beautifully crafted Eastern wrought iron and maple staircase is open to all 3 levels of the home, including the ready to be developed basement with its nine foot ceilings and in floor heating. Just to the left of the front door is a dining room/den with a bulk head ceiling and three stain glass transoms. A wonderfully designed great room, with its electric fireplace and built in maple shelving units, opens to the kitchen and dinette.
Functionality is the number one priority of this home's kitchen which boasts a walk thru pantry from the back garage entrance. The maple cabinets, granite counter tops, double built in oven, countertop stove, microwave fan unit, and stainless steel fridge make it a pleasure for any cook preparing a casual or formal meal. The maintenance free, covered deck off of this room makes it easy to enjoy any meal outdoors with family and friends.
Upstairs is open and bright with a large bonus room with a built in window bench for extra seating and extra storage below it. It is large enough to set up a separate computer or play area. Just across this space are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, including the large master en suite. The maple floors and cabinets along with the three and a quarter inch baseboards are continued throughout the upstairs. The master bedroom and its 9 foot tray ceiling comes with rope lighting that sits in the crown molding giving the room a romantic, soft, ambient light. This mood continues into the en suite which has a large 6 ft by 3.5 ft air jetted jacuzzi with chromatherapy lights. The shower is big enough for two and there is ample storage space for toiletries as well as a large walk in closet.
Georgina Nunes-Serrao points out; "Urbanity means, quality and refinement", she goes on to say her goal for each of the homes she builds is "to demonstrate energy efficiency and still look elegant without looking odd." She believes the Hutton achieves that both inside and out. Georgina, along with her husband Roy Serrao plan to continue helping people realize their dreams.
